 Segment One   On-line registration

32 hours of classroom
Most of our Segment One classes consist of 32 hours of classroom (16 classes).  Each class is 2 hours long.  Some of the Segment One sessions are a few days shorter due to major holidays. These classes will be conducted at a slightly accelerated pace to make up the 1 - 2 days.

Why 32 hours?
Navigator's Segment One class is 8 Hours over the minimum standards (24 hrs) because our curriculum cannot be completed in 24 hours.  We have developed our own curriculum by combining the National ADTSEA curriculum, Michigan Propulsion curriculum, UPS driver standards, Michigan law enforcement standards, and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

6 Hours of driving
Our behind the wheel hours are separate from the classroom hours.  When trying to decide on the right classroom time and location for you and your teen, please remember that there will be 6 two hour drive times either before or after class.  (one hour driving and one hour observing.)

Drive One
- Low traffic, braking, accelerating, and turning
Drive Two - Parking Maneuvers - parallel, perpendicular, 3 point turns.
Drive Three - Lane changing, blind spots, left/right turns at traffic lights
Drive Four - Downtown GR/freeway - one-way streets, pedestrian crossings.
Drive Five - Rural roads and other encounters (i.e. traffic circles/dirt roads)
Drive Six - Evaluation - This is where we put all of the above into a one hour evaluation drive.

Student Eligibility
1. Students must be at least 14 years 8 months old by the first day of class.
2. Students must pass a vision test.  Visual acuity is at least 20/40 corrected for an unrestricted driver license.
3. Students must provide a birth certificate or passport so we can verify their date of birth.
4. The student has not had a fainting spell, blackout, seizure, or other loss of consciousness in the past six months.

Foreign Exchange Students
Foreign exchange students may enroll in our Segment One drivers training course, but they will NOT receive a certificate of completion.  The State of Michigan prohibits foreign exchange students from obtaining their drivers license.
*Note - Foreign exchange student is different from a foreign student.  Foreign exchange students are here for a short period of time and do not plan on living in the US.

Special Needs Students
Navigator Driving Academy will do everything they can to provide drivers training to anyone wishing to obtain a drivers license.  If you or your teen requires auxiliary aids and services (i.e. interpreters, adaptive devices, etc.) please let us know beforehand so we can accommodate your teen.

Missed Class

If a student misses any of the classes, he or she must inform the instructor ahead of time to obtain the homework.  With our curriculum, if they miss a class they will still receive the minimum amount of hours the State of Michigan requires.  It will be up to the individual student to make up the material.
